At midday on Saturday, March 15, Central Beacons Mountain Rescue Team were called out to Sgwd yr Pannwr Waterfall in Bannau Brycheiniog.

The team’s 26th request of the year came from Dyfed-Powys Police for a female walker who had slipped and twisted her leg, resulting in a very painful fracture of her lower leg.

Because of the potential seriousness of the injury, assistance from Welsh Ambulance Services University NHS Trust and a Maritime and Coastguard Agency helicopter was also requested.

Walkers in the area made sure the casualty was safe and as comfortable as possible before the emergency services arrived.

Some terrific joint working ensured the lady was safely and smoothly lifted out of the gorge to the waiting WAST Ambulance.

A spokesperson for Central Beacons Mountain Rescue Team said: “As always, we hope the fracture mends quickly and our fingers are crossed that the lady returns to enjoy the outdoors as soon as possible.

“We also extend our huge gratitude to all the walkers in the area for their help until we all arrived, as well as those close by who worked with us to keep a safe distance away from the hefty effects of the helicopter downdraught as it hovered. Thank you all.”
