Para table tennis star Rob Davies is in singles quarter-final action this afternoon in the Paralympics.

Brecon’s Davies, 40, is set to take on South Korea’s Hakjin Kim at 4:45pm today.

Davies is the Rio 2016 Paralympic champion but was unable to defend his men’s class 1 singles title in Tokyo due to injury.

Speaking ahead of the Paris Paralympics, he said: “Obviously I was gutted about not going to Tokyo.

“But that’s forgotten about now and I’m just looking forward to getting to Paris and seeing what I can do there. I do like the big occasions, and I like to think that I can up my game for it.

“I feel I’m going in the right direction, and I just want to make the most of it and enjoy it every time I’m on the table.

“I don’t want to put too much pressure on myself for Paris, so we’ll see what happens.”

Davies was knocked out of the doubles tournament of this year’s games last week.

He and partner Thomas Matthews lost out to top seeded South Korean pair Yeongjin Jang and Sung Joo Park.

“The atmosphere was amazing,” said Davies, after the match.

“We’d been hearing it in the warmup area so it sort of prepared us for it and I really enjoyed it. I know the result wasn’t what we wanted but the atmosphere was unreal, and it was all about getting out there and trying to play like we can but it was always going to be difficult against the number one seeds.

“Tom and I are both playing really well and I can’t wait to play again so let’s go in the singles now.”
