SPAR MID WALES LEAGUE DIVISION 1

Radnor Valley returned to winning ways in the Spar Mid Wales League first division with a 2-1 home success over Bow Street on Saturday. Both sides were without key players but Radnor came from behind to take the spoils and end Bow Street’s outside chance of runners-up spot. Tom Williams had fired the visitors ahead with a great strike but a 25 yard rocket from Callum Matthews levelled matters before Joey Price rounded the ‘keeper to win it for The Goats midway through the second half.

And Radnor made it a successful Bank Holiday week-end with two goals from topscorer, Joey Price sealing a 2-0 home victory over Berriew with manager, Paul Morgan praising his layers. He said: “They deserve a lot of credit, some changed their plans to play and others played in the ridiculous despite carrying injuries.”

Welshpool Town are now assured of second place as Llanidloes Town also suffered defeat going down 1-0 at home against local rivals, Carno whose Scott Williams grabbed the only goal of the afternoon.

Llandrindod wells failed to halt Llanrhaeadr’s title celebrations as they went down 3-0 in the Tanat Valley. Llanrhaeadr are showing little sign of easing up and also eased to a 4-0 win at Tywyn Bryncrug on Monday.

Elsewhere Berriew eased to 6-0 win at Tywyn Bryncrug continuing their good second half of the season since focusing on youth. Steff Rogers scored twice and Luke Vickers, Jake Mann, George Davies and Josh Morgan completed the six hit.

Bow Street made a swift return to winning ways with Rhun Garner (2), Adrew Gittins and an own goal making up a 4-0 win at Kerry on Monday while Llanfair were 5-0 winners at basement side, Borth United thanks to Matt Bumford (2), Dan Kenyon (2) and Andrew Hughes.

SPAR MID WALES LEAGUE CUP

Knighton Town’s last hopes of silverware this season disappeared in a 5-3 Spar Mid Wales Leage Cup quarter final defeat at Llanfair United who took an early lead through Josh Astley.

In a competitive tie, Connor Bird levelled when he finished off a fine team move but Llanfair restored their lead in the second half when Dan Kenyon’s long throw was deflected into his own net by Knighton player-manager, Adam Worton. Matt Spencer pounced on a poor back pass to make it three for Llanfair and the game was then held up after the unfortunate Adam Farmer broke his leg. After the restart Alun Hughes added a fourth for Llanfair but Bird headed his second for Knighton after Worton’s free-kick hit the bar. Knighton were gaining the upper hand at this stage but a Paul Griffiths free-kick virtually clinched it for the home side against the run of play although Knighton got a third with youngsters, Jack Brindley and Kieran Stead combining for Brindley to head home.

SPAR MID WALES LEAGUE DIVISION 2

Builth Wells landed the Spar Mid Wales League second division title with a 4-0 home victory over Dolgellau on Bank Holiday Monday. Player-manager, Chris Jones has really turned things around on the Lant Field and Builth are Division Two Champions with three games to spare. Richie Powell put Builth ahead from Gethin Jarman’s cross and a Josh Price cross led to an own goal which doubled the lead. Tom Bethell netted with a free-kick and Powell notched his second from Gavin Samuel’s cut back meaning a penalty miss form Bethell did not matter as Builth were already celebrating.

Builth had showed their character on Saturday coming back from 4-1 to salvage a point in a 4-4 draw at Llansantffraid Village who were already assured of a top two finish. The home side raced into a two goal lead but Gethin Jarman headed one back for The Bulls. Llansanrtffraid however forged a 4-1 lead before Bethell raised Bulth hopes from the penalty spot. And Builth look determined to go through the term unbeaten as Richie Powell reduced the deficit with a header before Joel Metcalf grabbed a late equaliser.

Nathan Prodger bagged yet another hat-trick for Llansantffraid whose Baile Austin was their other marksman.

It was a busy week-end for Llansantffraid who triumphed 4-3 at Newbridge on Sunday where The Villagers also ended their league campaign. Having won their previous three, Newbridge were in good form and pushed their opponents all the way. Ollie Woods gave them a perfect start with a goal inside three minutes but a defensive slip allowed te visitors to level on the stroke of half-time. Alfie Stonefield put Newbridge back in front with a good finish after latching on to a clearance from ‘keeper, Fin Duncan Mckaine. Woods bagged his second to seemingly put Newbridge on the road to victory but Llansantffraid pulled one back and then netted a penalty before bundling a winner just minutes from time.

The prolific Nathan Prodger and Aled Jones each scored twice for Llansantffraid.

Brecon Northcote look set to finish third in their debut season after a vital 2-1 verdict over Hay St Marys. Curtis Williams put Northcote ahead inside two minutes and Jordan Ingram added a second. The Saints reduced the deficit through a deflected Jack Biggs strike just before half-time but despite enjoying the better of the second half, Hay were unable to come up with an equaliser.

Elsewhere there were defeats for Presteigne and Penybont. Presteigne were beaten 4-1 at Abermule while Penybont crashed 7-1 at Montgomery Town.

WATSON FINANCIAL MID WALES LEAGUE (SOUTH)

League Champions, Rhayader Town paid the price for taking their foot off the pedal as they suffered a 4-0 defeat at Builth Wells Reserves last Thursday night. The Red Kites had looked set to go throughout the campaign without dropping a point but were stunned as Bulth sent them to their first league defeat of the term with a superb performance. Dave Thomas netted twice and Rhodri Jones and Liam Rylan were also on target for Builth with Rhayader undoubtedly missing the presence of Gareth Hughes.

It is a busy end of season for Builth, who still have three league games to play, and they ran out 5-0 winners at St Harmon earlier in the week. Dave Thomas is on course to land the McCartneys Cup, awarded to the league’s top goalscorer and the striker helped himself to another hat-trick, taking his league tally to 34 for the season. Shane Claridge and Liam Ryland were Builth’s other goalscorers.

Llanidloes Town Reserves secured runners-up spot with a big 13-0 win against Hay St Marys Reserves on Friday night. Jenson Jones and Kai Evans both notched hat-tricks with Callum Jones (2), Jordan Jones and player-manager, Dave Jarman also netting while there were three own goals. It has been a difficult season for Hay but to their credit they have carried on to see the season out.

Newcastle, who have had a successful league campaign, just missing out on league honours, returned to winning ways with an 11-0 thrashing of Hay St Marys Reserves. After narrow 1-0 defeats at both Llanidloes Town Reserves and Rhayader Town, the Shropshire men hit the goal trail with player-manager, Craig Morris leading the way with a four goal salvo. Richard Jones netted twice and Tom Bright, Carl Price, Jack Kennett, Edgar Whately and Matthew Jones completed the spree.

Presteigne Reserves followed up their seven goals against Knighton Reserves last time out with an emphatic 8-1 home verdict against basement side, Felindre. Alan Stocker and Ewan Rhodes both registered hat-tricks for the Llanandras Park side with Tom Crichton and Duanne Anning also scoring. Luke Morgan gained a consolation for Felindre, who have found it hard going in their debut season but will aim for an improvement next time.

Brecon Northcote Reserves signed off for the summer with a 3-1 verdict at Llandrindod wells Reserves. Curtis Williams gave Northcote an interval lead and Ian Forbes and Louis Pritchard netted in the second half when Kieran McCarley replied for Llandrindod.

PIP SAMUEL (ELECTRICAL) MID WALES (SOUTH) LEAUE CUP

Rhayader Town completed a Mid Wales (South) League and Cup double with a 5-2 victory over Presteigne Reserves in Sunday’s Pip Samuel (Electrical) Mid Wales (South) League Cup Final at Bulth Wells. In glorious sunshine, tow first half goals from Gareth Hughes set The Red Kites on their way.Hughes opened the scoring with a fien strike and headed his and Rhayader’s second after Joe Wozencraft had flicked on Taylor Wozencraft’s corner. An error from ‘keeper, Eifion Price allowed Jamie Blythe to pull one back for Presteigne early n the second hald but Rhayader soon regained their two goal advantage with Mattie Lewis and Dave Sivell combining for Jamie Evans to head home. Hughes spurned the chance of a hat-trick, blazing a penalty over the bar following a foul on Jordan McFadden who did score a fourth after latching on to a through ball. Veteran Mark Wozencraft completed he nap hand with a header from a cross by Mattie Lewis who along with Gareth Hughes has been so influential on the youngsters in the Rhayader side this season. JamieBlythe did notch a second for Presteigne with a screamer but the day and the season belonged to The Red Kites who will step up to the Spar Mid Wales League next season.
