RHAYADER Town stretched their lead at the top of the Spar Mid Wales League first division to six points with a 4-1 victory over Bow Street.
The Red Kites welcomed back one of their favourite sons in Rhys Thomas and he scored the first goal and also won a penalty as Town came from a goal down.
After a couple of indifferent performances, those who thought Rhayader were rocking had to think again as Town turned in one of their best performances of the term.
Bow Street took a first minute lead through Ifan Burrell but Thomas, back after a spell at Caersws, fired Rhayader level. Tom Bethell took Rhayader into an interval lead with a penalty after Dan Goodman was taken out in the box and added a second penalty after the break when Thomas was brought down.
The hard working Richie Powell put the icing on the cake with a fourth when his header looped over the Bow Street ‘keeper.
Brendan Hackett scored twice as Hay St Marys completed a league double over Machynlleth with a 3-1 away win. The Saints were quick out of the blocks and raced 2-0 ahead through Hackett and Ryan Davies and Rob Snedden then set Hackett up for a third midway through the half.
Machynlleth pulled one back on the stroke of half-time through Dewi Thomas and the second half belonged to the hosts but Hay stood firm to record their first ever win at Machynlleth.
Knighton Town extended their unbeaten run to five with Adam Farmer netting in a 1-1 draw at home against Aberaeron while Llandrindod Wells held second placed Berriew to a 2-2 draw on The Broadway.
Elliot Williams followed up his league cup hat-trick with another two goals for the Spa side while Karl Seliaerts netted twice for Berriew.
Radnor Valley recorded one of the day’s top results with a 5-3 home win against nine man Llanrhaeadr.
Geraint Lloyd scored twice with Joey Price, Jack Price and Ieuan Price also netting with Iwan Matthews, Tom Bailey and Iain Edmunds replying for Llanrheadr who had Bailey and Ben White both sent off
