Presteigne's Jim Williams cruised to a 3-0 victory on Sunday, December 17, at Alexandra Palace to progress to the second round of the World Darts Championships.
Williams beat Guyana's Norman Madhoo in straight sets maintaining his run of always winning his first round game at Alexandra Palace.
The Presteigne man's victory has set up a second round clash for him to take on two time World Champion, Peter 'Snakebite' Wright. The two came up against each other on the European Tour in 2022 where Jim Williams won 6-5
Speaking to the media after his win, the 39 year-old Welshman said: "It was a funny one. Half of my mind was on playing Peter Wright, which is really difficult. For two weeks I've been thinking 'Jim win this game (first round game against Madhoo), win this game.' So to get through it is great."
Williams was also asked about his upcoming game against Peter Wright. He said: "It's a dream draw, playing against, I would say, the most popular player in the PDC at the moment on an evening game.
"There isn't a player here who wouldn't want that draw. It's great for me, he's a fantastic player who I look up to and I'm looking forward to it a lot."
Williams takes on Peter Wright on Wednesday (20 December) evening.
