RHAYADER Town are again Radnorshire's top dogs as they retained the Aspidistra Radnorshire Cup with a comfortable 4-0 win over Talgarth Town in Easter Monday's final at Builth Wells.
Captain Gareth Hughes received the trophy from sponsor Malcolm Eaton, of the Aspidistra Restaurant, and it was Hughes who had set the Red Kites on their way to victory with the first two goals.
The former Welsh Premier League man opened the scoring inside five minutes with a tap-in from a corner, but any thoughts that the floodgates might open were kept at bay by a dogged Talgarth.
Hughes did grab his and Rhayader's second when he nodded in from close range after the Red Kites had hit the bar, although the Royals thought there had been a foul in the build-up to the goal. Talgarth's resilience crumbled as Rhys Thomas slotted in a third to effectively seal the result before half time and Jean-Luc Alvarez raced clear to complete the tally on the hour mark.
