FIREFIGHTERS battled for nearly four hours to bring a blaze in a former youth centre under control.

A fire broke out at Dolgerddon Hall in Rhayader shortly after midday on Monday, July 2.

The roof of the two-storey property was destroyed by the fire.

Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service said there were no reports of any casualties.

Crews from Rhayader, Llandrindod Wells, Llanidloes, Builth Wells, Llanwrtyd Wells and Newtown attended the blaze at the Victorian building.

The firefighters extinguished the fire using two breathing apparatus, five main jets, an aerial ladder platform, two water bowsers, three thermal imaging cameras and an unmanned aerial drone.

Members of the public brought water to keep the firefighters hydrated as they battled the fire throughout the afternoon in temperatures of more than 20 degrees C. The fire service received the stop message at 4.14pm.
