The Bracken Singers held a successful concert at the Metropole Hotel on Wednesday, March 26, marking their first full performance under new leader Vera Buckler and accompanist Sue Turner.
The Singers performed a varied selection, including favorites like “Welcome to My World,” “Gipsy Rover,” “Island in the Sun,” and “Walking in the Rain.” They also included some traditional Welsh songs, culminating in powerful renditions of “Calon Lân” and the National Anthem of Wales.
During the interval, member Robert Harmon organized a fun music quiz, which added an extra layer of enjoyment for the audience. The concert was particularly well received by a group of Civic Society tourists from Kent, many of whom were heard singing along.
Vera Buckler, the new leader, praised the group for their effort, stating that each member could be proud of their contribution to the evening’s success. At the end of the performance, many audience members approached Ms Buckler to express their appreciation for the Singers' work.
The event raised funds for the Bracken Trust Cancer Support Centre, with all proceeds going toward the charity's vital work.
The Bracken Singers will return to the Metropole Hotel for another performance on Wednesday evening, April 16.
