The Brecon Choir Festival 2025, taking place from July 17 to 20, is set to be a standout cultural event, featuring headline performances from the BBC National Chorus of Wales and The King’s Men, the choral scholars from the world-famous King’s College, Cambridge.

This year’s festival promises a rich program of world-class music, local talent, and a celebration of Welsh cultural heritage, with further line up announcements still to come.

BBC National Chorus of Wales Performs Carmina Burana

The festival’s Grand Concert will see the BBC National Chorus of Wales, conducted by Adrian Partington, perform Carl Orff’s powerful Carmina Burana at Brecon Cathedral. The dramatic piece, famous for its “O Fortuna!” opening, will also feature a local children’s chorus and soloists from Continuum, favourites from last year’s festival.

The King’s Men

On Festival Saturday, The King’s Men will take the stage at the historic Christ College Brecon chapel. Drawn from the choral scholars of the world-famous King’s College, Cambridge, this exceptional group is known for its impeccable harmonies and rich choral tradition, making their performance a must-see highlight of the festival.

The Return of the Festival Trail

After last year’s great success, the Festival Choir Trail will return in 2025. This unique feature of the festival allows audiences to explore Brecon through pop-up performances at various venues around the town, showcasing a range of choral talent in informal settings.

More Headliners and Children’s Events to Be Announced

In addition to these marquee performances, festival organizers have promised further announcements in the coming months, including family-friendly events and programs designed to inspire and engage young audiences.

Other Festival Highlights

• Brecon Singers and Festival Chorus Present Elijah: Opening the festival, the Brecon Singers and a specially assembled Festival Chorus will perform Mendelssohn’s beloved oratorio, Elijah.

• Voices from the Valley: Festival Friday will celebrate the rich heritage of Welsh male voice choirs, featuring a collaboration between the Pendyrus Male Choir, recently marking their 100th anniversary, and the Aberhonddu & District Male Choir.

Festival Theme: R.S. Thomas - Music, Man... Machine

The 2025 festival theme celebrates the life and work of Welsh priest-poet R.S. Thomas. The program includes discussions, an art exhibition, and a special musical performance by the choral group Hemiola, inspired by Thomas’ poetry. The festival will also examine the role of choral music in responding to technological advancements.

Artistic Director Joshua Games said: “We are delighted to announce a first-class line up for our 2025 festival which will again place the audience at the centre with unique participation opportunities across the weekend.”
