From drawing up design plans on the train home after dropping her company car off in Birmingham following her redundancy in 2019, Vicky and her husband, Lyndon Jones’ cabin has been named best romantic getaway for 2025.

The holiday let located near Llandrindod Wells has been named ‘Best Romantic Getaway in Wales 2025’ at the SME UK Enterprise Awards.

Vicky and Lyndon moved to the area ten years ago with their two young children and dreamt of owning a holiday cabin for tourists to come and stay.

Redundancy from her old job was all the motivation Vicky needed to get started on the project. Vicky said: “When we moved to our house ten years ago, what we wanted to do was build a cabin, but we may never have done it if I hadn’t been made redundant, but because I was made redundant and I got that redundancy money through It meant that we could start the work.

“I designed the cabin on a train after dropping my company car off.

“I had to take the car back to the company in Birmingham and I sat on the train on my way home from Birmingham to Shrewsbury and designed the cabin and still have those original designs and they’re not much different to the finished product really.

“My husband picked me up from the station and I said ‘I’ve designed the cabin! It’s done, let’s start!”

A week later, using her redundancy pay, Vicky and Lyndon built the cabin from scratch themselves to save money, which was a yearlong process.

“It wasn’t just put up there and built by a flat pack, it was all made by bits and pieces we had around the place and properly made.”

Despite having to wait for the lockdown from the covid pandemic to pass, Coety Bach officially opened and have been busy with bookings ever since.

The cabin is fit with an outdoor woodfire hot tub, outdoor seating area around a fire, an outdoor bath and a living area, kitchen area, bed and bathroom inside.

“People love it because it’s accessible, and out in the sticks if you like,” said Vicky. “There are amazing views.

“Everybody that comes here goes back home feeling rejuvenated, and reconnected because we don’t have a television in there or wi-fi, so it sort of makes couples get to know each other again.”

They offer multiple choices of romantic packages for couples who stay there, including proposal packages, and a pebble painting activity.

On being named Best Romantic Getway 2025, Vicky said: “It felt great to be honest. It was nice to be recognised for all the hard work we have done and the fact that we are recognised for still putting work into it to make it better all the time. We haven’t just built it and left it.

“We really put a lot of effort into the extra touches so people can come for honeymoons, proposals, and birthdays etc. I’m so proud.”
