It proved to be a very successful Royal Welsh Show this year for Pontfaen YFC - with members taking part in a variety of activities and competitions over the four days.
The Monday of the show (July 22) saw Mollie Hughes, Sian Healey and Henry Davies win the scrapbook competition. The judge congratulated the club on such a busy year, and said it was great to see press cuttings in the scrapbook. Sian and Henry were also interviewed by Wyn Evans on BBC Radio Wales.
In the afternoon Sian Healey, Mollie Hughes, Carys Rees, Rachel Rees and Megan Chowdhuri entertained the crowd with their wartime songs in the group singing.
William Prosser and Joel Price were members of the county rugby team along with members of Sennybridge and Trecastle YFC. Firstly, they took on Pembrokeshire - winning by more than 20 points. They then faced Ceredigion in a tough game but won and went through to the final on the Wednesday.
On early Tuesday morning (July 23) Angharad Rees and Rebecca Lewis took part in the senior Generation Game coming away with first place. They had half an hour to come up with an idea to produce a video to promote safety at the Royal Welsh Show or other events for youngsters going out. They then had to pitch their idea in two minutes to judge Mr Steve Hughson.
On Wednesday (July 24), 13-year-old Connie Hyde took part in the Texel Judging under 16, coming away with an impressive second place.
In the afternoon the county rugby team took on Carmarthenshire but they proved to be a tough team to beat. They were however runners-up in seven-a-side rugby.
On the Wednesday evening Ruby and William Herdman took part in the junior tug of war with Trecastle YFC. With some tremoundous pulls they became champions.
On Thursday (July 25) Rhian Lewis and Georgia Thompson took part in the cob judging.
The club was proud to help Brecknock secure second place overall at this year’s Royal Welsh Show.
