Following numerous references to the budget announcement, where changes to Inheritance Tax relief and Business Property Relief have featured in many articles, last week saw farmers head to London.

Many of us met with MPs, a delegation of Brecon and Radnor farmers met with David Chadwick MP and Daisy Cooper MP, Shadow Treasury Minister for the Liberal Democrats, and we were able to display the impact the changes will have on all our farming businesses. We remain firm in the view that the effect will be felt far wider than the Treasury figures suggest.

However, at this point in time, I would like to thank the public for their continued support. I know many rural businesses and communities rely on a profitable farming sector, but consumer support for all of the industry is vital. Thank you to everyone who went to London, those who have signed the NFU petition, the MP’s who have met with us – we appreciate the support.

As we turn to Christmas, I hope everyone buys Welsh/British produce to spur us on as we continue this battle.

Yours,

Rob Powell, Brecon and Radnor NFU Cymru County Chairman
