New events will be introduced to this year’s St David’s Day celebrations in Brecon.
The 'Criw Cymraeg,' made up of schools in Brecon and the surrounding areas is keen to develop the event this year.
A brand-new competition for shops and businesses in the town to decorate their buildings for St David’s Day has been introduced. The winning display will receive a Welsh hamper. The Criw Cymraeg will judge the displays after half term.
Entrants are asked to email photographs of their displays to: [email protected]

An all-new St David’s Day hunt for children is to take place in which letters will be displayed in different shop windows. Hunt answer sheets will be available to collect from y Gaer over the half term week. When the answer sheet is returned, the entries will be put in a box and a random winner will be drawn and will receive a cuddly Welsh dragon.
Teacher at Ysgol y Bannau, Kathryn Elias, who is heavily involved in the St David’s Day preparations said: "Last year’s procession was a huge success. We are excited to build on that success this year and hope that the Brecon community will get involved and join us to celebrate St David’s Day.”
The St David’s Day procession will take place as normal, but will be on Monday, March 3, as St David’s Day falls on a Saturday.

Brecon schools and the community will gather in Bethel Square at 10.15am to sing a selection of Welsh songs including, Sosban Fach, Yma o Hyd, Hei Mistar Urdd, Calon Lân, and the National Anthem. They will then march in a procession towards y Gaer, where they will sing a couple of songs again.
