With the Oscars just around the corner, Llandovery Cinema feel like they’ve won one themselves!

Llandovery is set to benefit from an exciting new cinematic initiative, thanks to successful grant funding from Ffilm Cymru Wales’ Film Exhibitor Fund. This funding will support Sinema Llanymddyfri – Llandovery Cinema, a project led by Hybu Llanymddyfri – Llandovery. The initiative aims to bring Welsh-language films, environmental documentaries, and accessible cinema experiences to the local community throughout 2025.

Maggi Swallow, Llandovery Events Support Coordinator said: "Hybu is thrilled to announce they have secured funding from Ffilm Cymru to bring Welsh language films and environment-themed films to our community cinema.

“This opportunity will not only celebrate the town’s rich Welsh cultural heritage but also spark important conversations about the environment, energy, sustainability and the health of our planet. It's a step towards creating a space where creativity and awareness meet, and we're delighted to have the opportunity to share these impactful stories with our community.”

The Film Exhibitor Fund, run by Ffilm Cymru Wales, supports initiatives that help innovate, include, and sustain film viewing across Wales, ensuring that diverse communities have access to high-quality cinematic experiences. With this funding, Hybu Llanymddyfri – Llandovery will deliver a series of monthly Welsh-language film screenings and quarterly environmental documentaries, promoting both cultural heritage and sustainability.

Lee Walters, CEO of Ffilm Cymru Wales, says: “We are thrilled to see Llandovery Cinema revived, reopened and once again making film the heart of the local community. This new role with Llandovery Initiative will be a fantastic opportunity to celebrate Welsh culture, creativity and ambitious climate action, and Ffilm Cymru Wales is proud to support it.”
