Two bowlers from Llandrindod Wells have triumphed at a national championships, and will go on to represent Wales next year.
Steve Jones and Sam Roff won the Welsh outdoor pairs title at the Welsh Bowling Association National Finals, held at Llandrindod Wells Bowling Club over 10 days from September 10 - 20.
With players descending on Llandrindod Wells from all over Wales to compete for a National title, the town was abuzz with bowling chatter as the first jack was rolled.
After winning through as the Mid Wales entry, Steve and Sam beat John Morgan and Paul Browning of Gilfach Goch B.C (Vale of Glamorgan) 20-15 in the last 16, Jamie James and Ian Pugh of Aberystwyth (Ceredigion) 20-11 in the last 8, and 2018 champions Paul Diment & Ryan Thomas of Tenby (Pembrokeshire) 22-19 in the semi-final.
In the final match, the Llandrindod pair came out on top against Ross Owen & Jarrad Breen Harlequins (Mid Glamorgan) 18-13, to clinch the national crown.
Steve and Sam will now go on to represent Wales in the British Isles Championships in 2022.
The duo’s title caps a successful season for Llandrindod Wells after winning both the Ladies Brecon & Radnor and Men’s Mid Wales League titles.
