The Brecon Cricket Club season in the South East Wales Cricket League ended on the last Saturday of August with the first team in Division 2 defeating the league’s bottom team Blackwood at home, whilst the second team went down to defeat away to Division 9 runners-up SW Sri Lankans.
Despite this last game win against Blackwood the first team are relegated to Division 3 for the first time in the club’s history. This comes despite a very positive end to the season with four victories on the trot. The damage had however been done earlier in the season when unavailability of players led to a series of poor results from which it proved impossible to recover from.
The first team record was won five and lost 12 with one game being cancelled. The leading run scorers were Kieran Marmion 365, James Davenport 296, Rhys Pritchard 262 and Jac Kenchington 242. The leading wicket takers were Jac Kenchington with 28 and Ryan Morgan with 22 and James Mitchell and Sam Williams with 16 each.
For the second team, led with great commitment by John Kenchington, the record was five wins and nine loses with four cancelled. The leading run scorers were John himself with 365 runs and Rob Hudman with 173. The leading wicket takers were Derek Osborne with 20 and John Kenchington with 18 wickets.
Two centuries were scored - one for the first team by Keiron Marmion with 143 no and the other by Dafydd Edwards for the second team with 104. Four five-wicket hauls were achieved - Richard Lovering 5 for 24 and Ryan Morgan 5 for 36 and for the second team Chamandeep Singh 5 for 26 and Derek Osborne 5 for 45.
The club’s Annual General Meeting will be at Brecon Rugby Club on Friday, September 27 at 7:30pm - everyone welcome.
