Brecon Corries got into the Christmas spirit with a resounding 6-0 victory in their Ardal South East clash against Undy Athletic at the Rich Field, thanks to a five-goal display from Joel Evans.

Undy had an early chance when Harris Thomas tested stand-in goalkeeper Damien Daniels with a 20-yard free-kick in the third minute, as regular keeper Steve Price was suspended. The hosts responded almost immediately, with Matty Tong's low shot saved and Joel Evans' header from the resulting corner turned behind by Undy keeper Jack Harris.

The Corries broke the deadlock in the 12th minute when Joel Evans headed home from a Jack Bain free-kick.

Just five minutes later, Jordan Baker’s cross hit the crossbar, and Evans was quick to pounce, turning the ball past Harris to double the lead.

Despite a slight lull, the Corries continued to press and extended the lead further in the 40th minute when Joel Evans played the ball through to brother Craig Evans before he maintained his composure to lift it over the advancing Harris

After the break, the Corries kept the pressure on. Craig Evans had a shot saved by Harris in the 53rd minute, followed by Jordan Baker's effort being deflected wide. In the 59th minute, Joel Evans sealed his hat-trick, closing on a back pass to Harris to tap into an empty net. Just two minutes later, he netted his fifth after some confusion in the Undy defence.

Undy had few chances, with Daniels making a smart save from Thomas in the 57th minute. Brecon continued to dominate, with Dale Evans firing over the bar and Nyle Slade narrowly missing with a lob over Harris, before Undy’s Oliver Smith had a shot saved in the 77th minute.

Corries can now look forward to their final home fixture of 2024 against promotion rivals Canton on Saturday.
