The Red Kites female rugby hub had a busy and successful weekend, with teams across multiple age groups showcasing their talents.
On Friday night, the Under-16s team kicked off the action with a local derby against Mid Wales Kites, securing a 15-5 victory in challenging, wet conditions. The match showcased a fantastic team effort and served as a great advertisement for female rugby in Powys.

Sunday saw the Under-14s take on the Knights at home in a closely contested match. The Red Kites showed impressive grit and determination but were unfortunately edged out 29-27 in the final minutes. Despite the loss, the team played a fantastic game of rugby, demonstrating resilience against a strong Knights side.

Meanwhile, the Under-12s had their first game as a team away against the Pontyclun Falcons. In what was an outstanding performance, the Red Kites triumphed with a dominant 67-26 win. The team’s excellent teamwork and speed were evident throughout.
For some players, it was their debut match, and it was clear they’ve got a bright future ahead as they continue to grow in confidence and skill with more experience.
Since its formation in 2016, the Red Kites hub has continued to thrive, attracting new talent and creating opportunities for young female rugby players. Over the years, the club has seen players selected to represent Wales in the Under-18s Six Nations, and the Under-14s team’s triumph in the WRU Matrix Plate last season is another highlight in the hub’s impressive journey.
The future looks incredibly bright for Red Kites, with more young players showing interest in joining the sport and taking their first steps into rugby.
