The seasonal bellringing in Brecon got off to a resounding start during the week before Christmas.
The bells in St Mary's Buckingham Tower rang out for the Rotary Club's annual concert and, two days later, for the Mayor's carol service.
Next up on the programme was Christmas Eve with the Christingle service at St David's Church and the Cathedral's Nine Lessons and Carols.
On Christmas morning, the town heard the traditional sound of St Mary's and the Cathedral bells.
The ringers celebrate New Year's Eve on St Mary's bells by ringing out the old year and ringing in the new, often accompanied by the sound of revellers in the street below.
The traditional St Mary's New Year Peal, which has not taken place since before Covid, is planned for the early evening of New Year's Day. This is a set piece of ringing, taking about three hours, and will be attempted by eight ringers from Brecon and elsewhere.
The dedicated band of ringers, which ring in the three Brecon towers, welcomed three new recruits in 2024. Anyone wishing to join them or learn more about bellringing in 2025, please contact Paul Johnson (01874 658670) or any of the ringers.
Visitors are always welcome at any of the Monday evening practices or for a trip up St Mary's or the Cathedral towers.
