Community spirit, joy, and nostalgia were in full force at the Rhys Prichard Memorial Hall last month as Llandovery Cinema / Sinema Llanymddyfri celebrated a successful reopening.
The event brought locals together for a special Humanity Day Gathering, featuring delicious food, lively conversation, and a screening of Greta Thunberg’s short film#ForNature, followed by Casablanca.
A spokesperson for the cinema said: “The evening was filled with warmth, laughter, and connection, reflecting the community’s enthusiasm for their cherished local cinema.
“Thanks to funding from Cinema for All, BFI Film Institute, Film Forever, and the National Lottery Community Fund, the event celebrated the power of community collaboration and the arts. Special appreciation goes to Jill Tatman (LYCC), Isis Mera, and Valerie Wood-Gaiger fromLearn with Grandma, whose support was invaluable in creating a memorable evening.”
Next up for the cinema is Thelma (2024), a heartwarming comedy starring the iconic June Squibb in her first leading role at 94. The film, which also stars Clark Gregg, Fred Hechinger, and Parker Posey, promises laughter and inspiration as Squibb’s character embarks on a heartwarming journey.
Looking ahead, Tiago Gambogi, Llandovery Community Activities Support Coordinator, said: “We’re delighted by the community’s response to our reopening.
“Our goal is to keep building on this energy, bringing residents together through cinema. We welcome film suggestions, so please reach out with any ideas!
“And if you’d like to volunteer with LYCC, you can earn Tempo Time Credits, which can be used for rewards. Learn more here:Tempo Time Credits.
“The Llandovery Cinema team invites everyone to join in for the next screening – bring friends, a dish to share, and experience the magic of community cinema!”
