Members of Hay St Mary’s Football Club are gearing up for a major fundraising effort to support the club.

Participants, including many of the club’s coaches, will climb Pen y Fan 10 times in just 24 hours. This challenge will see them ascend roughly the equivalent of Mount Everest's height (29,029 feet) - Earth's highest mountain above sea level.

The trek begins on Friday, May 2 and they will keep walking through the night, finishing on Saturday, May 3.

They will be raising money for the football club to provide football for all ages, from three years old and upwards

A spokesperson for Hay St Mary’s Football Club quipped: “We're not quite scaling Mount Everest in 24 hours. That would be a bit ambitious, don't you think?

“But we will be tackling Pen y Fan a whopping 10 times! That's 2,907 feet multiplied by 10—so basically the equivalent of climbing Everest, without the need for oxygen bottles... although they might come in handy towards the end of our little adventure!

“It’s going to take more than just grit and determination to conquer our very own Everest!”

Any donations, big or small, would be greatly appreciated by the club.

They added: “We'd absolutely love your support as we embark on this challenge so we can continue to provide football for everyone from age three to OAPs. Every penny counts and helps us keep kicking!

“We are looking forward to seeing how many of you can cheer us on or join in on the fun throughout the 24 hours.”

Last year, eight coaches from the club took on a fundraising challenge, walking 76 miles from Chepstow Castle to Hay Castle across three days to raise money for the junior section of the club.
