The first ever Talgarth repair café event was held on Saturday 8th February in Talgarth Community Hall to much success.

Skilled volunteers fixed nine much-loved items for members of the local community, and it was all done for free.

Visitors were given a warm welcome, with hot drinks and cakes courtesy of Talgarth Coop. One visitor to the cafe, named Serafin, said: “The friendly and supportive volunteers at Talgarth Repair Cafe gave me a new found confidence to give fixing a go. I can't wait for the next one.”

Repair cafes have lots of benefits, including reducing the number of items going into landfill, sharing valuable repair skills that could otherwise be lost and saving people money because they need not buy a replacement item. According to North London Waste Authority, just 15% of people in the UK report having repair skills, so repair cafes are a great way for communities to share these skills, while enjoying a welcoming space.

The free Talgarth repair café events will now take place on the second Saturday of each month from 10am-12.30pm at Talgarth Community Hall, with the next event on 8th March. Everyone is welcome and repairs are free, although donations towards running costs are welcomed.

Volunteers will attempt to fix items including lamps, vacuum cleaners, kettles, radios, wooden furniture, clothing, bags, bicycles and soft toys. There is no need for visitors to book as they can just call in with the item that needs repairing and enjoy a cuppa and a cake while they wait.
