BUILTH Wells Bowling Club members and some friends from neighbouring clubs recently travelled to Paphos, Cyprus for their third annual tour, writes Clive Barrett.
Staying at the Athena Beach Hotel, the tourists played six matches during their 11-day stay, four on the above hotel’s artificial greens (one game indoors and three outdoors).
Their record during a stay of fine very warm weather, was one of success, winning five matches and drawing the sixth.
Of their two fixtures away from their Athena Beach Hotel base, winning at nearby Peyia Bowling Club in the Coral Beach area, whilst their last match at Aphrodite Bowling Club was drawn, following a morning sightseeing visit to Limassol.
On days off from bowling members of the tour party visited Nicosia, followed by another enjoyable trip this time to the Troodos Mountains, with the Kykkos Monastery and its unique museum.
SUCCESS IN ATHENA RINKS COMPETITION
On their bowls tour to Cyprus members of Builth Wells Bowling Club and friends have traditionally taken part in the Athena Beach Hotel Rinks Competition.
Last year one of the teams won the trophy, and this year another four retained the cup for the Mid Wales club.
This year Builth again entered two teams, and this year’s winning rink comprised of Annette and Clive Barrett, Colin Dodd, and Steve Jones (skip). The above victors won two out of three seven end matches played. However they lifted the trophy because of having the highest winning aggregate overall, against the other eleven rink teams which entered.
The Builth four won a handsome trophy, individual certificates and prize money.
