World champions Jess Sims and Laura Daniels have crashed out of the Commonwealth Games lawn bowls at the group stage.
Sims, from Llandrindod Wells, and partner Daniels, who already claimed a silver in the individual event, had appeared to get their campaign for Women’s Pairs glory back on track after starting with a surprise loss to India.
But despite defeating Jersey 22-14 and then Northern Irish pair Catherine Beattie and Sandra Bailie, 18-13 the reigning world champions lost to South Africa 23-12 in their second game in the early hours of Wednesday, April 11.
South Africans Nicolene Neal and Collen Piketh dispatched the Welsh team at the 2,500 capacity Broadbeach Green bowls centre to advance to the quarter finals with India.
Sims and Daniels finished fourth of five teams in Section A with only Jersey below them in the table,.
The Wales Women’s Triples Team, of Emma Woodcock, from Knighton, and Caroline Taylor and Anwen Butten lost in quarter final against England, 16-11.
