Knighton Town maintained their perfect start to their Central Wales League (South) campaign with a comfortable victory over Machynlleth under the Bryn-y-Castell floodlights.

The Radnor Robins were looking to complete a double over the Maglonians after enjoying a 3-1 victory at Cae Glas in September and record a 14th successive victory since the beginning of the league campaign in August.

Knighton Town 4 - Machynlleth 1

After a low key start, the Radnor Robins eventually broke the deadlock in a tight opening 45 minutes courtesy of Taylor Wozencraft’s 26th minute shot from the edge of the penalty area that took a deflection and beat Mach goalkeeper Ewan Burnham at his near post.

The Montgomeryshire club looked to respond within two minutes of the restart but Max Jones directed his header wide of the target from a hanging cross on the left flank into the penalty area.

The hosts headed into the changing rooms holding a slender advantage over the Cae Glas outfit and Knighton Town manager Harry Worton would have fully aware that Machynlleth were highly capable of taking something from this match.

But the Radnor Robins made an explosive star to the second-half by scoring two goals in as many minutes that effectively sealed all three points.

Knighton Town defender Adam Worton powerfully headed home from a 46th minute corner before Declan Beddoes converted a low cross from the left within 60 seconds of the restart to extend the advantage and provide a comfortable buffer over Machynlleth.

The hosts then extended their lead when Wozencraft netted his second goal of the evening direct from a 62nd minute corner.

Machynlleth reduced the deficit in the 69th minute after Nicky Cadwallader spilled a low cross into the goal mouth and Calum Humphreys was on hand to force the loose ball into the net from close-range.

Wozencraft was presented with an opportunity from the penalty spot to complete his hat-trick with six minutes remaining but his strike struck an upright and was cleared to safety.

The visitors were reduced to 10 players in stoppage time when Phoenix Williams was shown a straight red.

The Radnor Robins built on this result by defeating defending champions Penparcau 5-2 on Saturday at Bryn-y-Castell courtesy of goals from Connor Bird (two), Wozencraft, Stead and Luke Boundford.
