Radnor Valley’s bid for a place in a third final ended in a heavy 7-1 defeat at Porthmadog in an Ardal Northern League Cup semi-final.

So often this season, Radnor have won games with their back against the wall but Saturday proved one step too far as their patched up squad, hampered by injury and suspension, proved no match for the hosts who were clinical in front of goal.

Ieuan Price netted Radnor’s goal after eight minutes to cancel out Porth’s opener from Rhys Alun Williams but that was as good as it got as Danny Brookwell, Jake Jones, Tom Hilditch and a second from Rhys Alun Williams made it 5-1 by half-time. Radnor kept battling but Cai Jones extended Porthmadog’s lead before substitute, Jamie Jones completed the tally.

Radnor will look to bounce back as they face a big week starting with a trip to Dolgellau in the league on Saturday. The Goats then face Builth Wells in the Aspidistra Radnorshire Cup Final at Knighton’s Bryn-y-Castell on Easter Monday before taking on Guilsfield in the Central Wales Cup Final at Welshpool on Friday, April 25.
