Brecon Hockey Club has had an incredible season across all age groups, from the Under 8s through to the senior Ladies’ team, with plenty of achievements to celebrate.
The Under 8s, 10s, and 12s took part in multiple tournaments throughout the season, enjoying the opportunity to compete, score goals, and most importantly, have fun with new friends. The Under 14s came close to reaching the play-offs for the South Wales Youth Hockey Cup finals, having faced tough teams like Gwent, Cowbridge, and Penarth. Though they didn’t make the finals, they were proud of their performances and the experience gained.
The Under 16s had a fantastic day out in Swansea, winning the South Wales Youth Hockey Plate competition. Meanwhile, the Under 18 Badgers are leading the South Powys League with 45 goals scored and none conceded, a remarkable achievement.
Several players also represented Glamorgan Valleys at County level, with some progressing to the South East Regional team, showcasing the strength of the club’s youth development pathway.
The Ladies’ team capped off the season with promotion to South Wales Division 1. After a strong campaign, winning 13 of their 16 games and scoring 53 goals, the squad displayed an excellent mix of youthful talent and experience. Players range from just 13 years old to Welsh Masters Over 60s representative Sally, and their hard work and determination have been evident throughout the season.
The club would like thank to the coaches, players, parents, umpires, and sponsors, including Seers, for their continued support throughout the year. A special mention goes to the Market Tavern providing refreshments for home games.
Looking ahead, Brecon Hockey Club is preparing to celebrate its 40th anniversary in September. With training resuming then, the club has exciting plans for the upcoming season.
