Radnor Valley showed their character by twice coming from behind to salvage a 3-3 draw at Ardal League North East leaders, Bow Street.
The Goats extended their recent unbeaten run to six in all competitions with goals from topscorer, Joey Price (2) and Thomas Edwards.
Radnor made a poor start and were a goal down on 10 minutes when a long throw-in was flicked on and deflected in off defender, Matt Croose. Bow Street increased their lead with Tim Office taking out Rhys Hughes for Callum Page to score from the penalty spot. But whereas Radnor were slow starters in the first half they were fired up after the break and Thomas Edwards sparked the comeback four minutes into the second half. Geraint Lloyd and home keeper, Ryan Burr were involved in a 50-50 challenge on the corner of the penalty area and the ball popped up to Edwards who fired into an unguarded net from 30 yards. Radnor were level when Burr failed to hold Joey Price’s long range effort and the ball squirmed over the line.
Bow Street regained their lead with Richie Ricketts cutting in from the right to hit the top corner. Radnor again responded and when the excellent Edwards, returning from a one-match ban, saw his darting run into the box halted, Price netted the afternoon’s second penalty. Price then hit the side netting and manager, Adam Jones, who was forced to don the keeper’s jersey, reckoned if the game had gone on another five minutes, Radnor could well have grabbed a winner.
It was a disappointing start to The New Year for Llandrindod Wells who fell to a 3-0 defeat at Cefn Albion where Alex Williams gunned down the Spa men with a hat-trick, although the result does not really reflect Llandrindod’s performance. Albion took an 11th-minute lead when Llandrindod were guilty of giving the ball away in midfield and Williams netted from Tori Samuel’s through ball. Llandrindod enjoyed their best spell of the game at the start of the second half but were unable to convert possession and territory into chances. The Radnorshire side continued to press for an equaliser but were hit on the counter attack with Williams doubling his and Albion’s tally with 10 minutes remaining, before completing his treble on 90 minutes.
Llandrindod were without Ashley Jones who was suspended but they could be without the central defender permanently with Caersws having served notice on the player. Meanwhile Builth Wells have confirmed that topscorer, Tommy Rowlands is to join Caersws in the transfer window.
Brickfield Rangers missed the chance to go second in the Ardal North East after being held to a 1-1 draw at Rhos Aelwyd. Steve Watkins gave Rangers the lead midway through the first half but Ryan Jenkins equalised two minutes into the second period.
Llanuwchllyn, however, continued their climb up the table with a 5-0 victory at Llangollen Town. Topscorer, Meilir Williams netted twice while former Llanrhaeadr midfielder, Tomos Evans completed a hat-trick. Llanuwchllyn, who have a stack of games in hand, have strengthened with the signings of Meirion Pughe and Rhys Rowlands from Ruthin Town and Tom Dyer from Flint Mountain to enhance their title ambitions.
The other four games scheduled in the Ardal League North East, including Builth Wells’ clash with Llanidloes Town, were postponed due to frozen pitches.
There was just one game in the MMP Central Wales League (South) to escape the weather and Ffostrasol notched an impressive 5-0 win at Penparcau to emerge as one of Rhayader Town’s main rivals for runners-up spot. New signing, Callum Shirt will score a lot of goals at this level and followed up his two goal debut with a hat-trick with Tomos Green and Tomos Rogers also on target.
In the MMP Central Wales League (North) there were wins for Trewern United and Barmouth. Trewern shocked Montgomery Town with goals from Daniel Morris, Andrew Gwilt and George Clifton (pen) securing a 3-0 away success – only their second league win of the term. And Barmouth climb into the top half of the table after beating Berriew 5-1 at home. A Rhys Jones own goal put them ahead on the stroke of half-time and Rob Griffith, Joe Soar, Leo Green and Ieuan Brooks chipped in after the break with John Lloyd netting Berriew’s lone reply.
Waterloo Rovers booked the remaining place in the Emrys Morgan Cup quarter-finals with a 3-0 home victory over Llanilar thanks to Matt Brasenall and Owain Richards (2).
Felindre saw their three-match unbeaten run in the JT Hughes Montgomery Amateur League ended in a 4-2 defeat at Llangedwyn where Alun Hughes scored twice for the hosts. Rhys Langley and Will Needham got Llangedwyn’s other goals with Justin Davies and Robert Brock keeping The Millers in contention.
