The PING Welsh Junior Tour is expanding to include players up to 18 years old, broadening the pathway for young golfers across Wales.

The tour will visit Mid Wales on June 22 with an event at Cradoc, leading up to the final in Carmarthen this September.

Previously open to players from Under-8s to Under-14s, the tour will now feature a new Under-18s category in competitions across the country. While some elite Welsh players compete nationally and across Europe, this expansion ensures more golfers can continue playing at a high level within Wales.

“We have added in another age category into the PING Welsh Junior Tour for Under 18’s in order to help shape and develop the pathway for junior golfers,” explained Wales Golf Competitions Manager Dan Fullager.

“This in turn also provides playing opportunities for those aged 14-17 who may not be able to play in the elite championships based on their Handicap Index.

“This also helps the Wales Golf High Performance team with talent identification, helping to ensure late developers do not slip through the net.

“We have also split up each age group into separate boy and girl categories so they are not competing for the same prizes, to help encourage more girls to participate.

“All of these changes come off the back of feedback from parents of players, and we were very happy to seek improvements in the competition in any way we could.”

This summer, the PING Welsh Junior Tour will visit Mold, Llanishen, Pwllheli, Cradoc, Aberdare, and Haverfordwest, building up to the Camarthen final.

The PING Welsh Junior Tour now looks like this:

Under-8s– Modified Stableford

Under-10s – Modified Stableford

Under-12s – Modified Stableford

Under-14s – Stableford (Handicap Qualifying)

Under-18s – Net Strokeplay with a Gross Prize (Handicap Qualifying).
